Powers: Solomon Grundy is an un-dead zombie/plant elemental. He possesses enormous super-strength, high resistance to most types of attacks, and if killed, he will rise again. Grundy also does not need to eat, breathe, or sleep.

Origin/History: in the year 1894, robbers mugged a wealthy man by the name of Cyrus Gold. His corpse was thrown into Slaughter Swamp(just outside Gotham City) where it sank to the bottom to rot. Forty-some years later, Cyrus was reanimated into the form of Solomon Grundy by the so-called Monolith of Evil. Grundy soon found himself being manipulated by mobsters into being their criminal muscle-man which often brought him into conflict with the original Green Lantern: Alan Scott and the Justice Society of America. Grundy survived over the years and was recruited to be a member of the Legion of Doom. While his most hated foe is the original Green Lantern, Superman is a close second, which is why Grundy accepted Lex Luthor’s offer to become a member of the Legion.

Moment of Glory: In the Super Friends episode “The Monolith of Evil”, Solomon Grundy tells the Legion of Doom that they must acquire the artifact that spawned him. He says this artifact has immense power that will help them defeat the Super Friends. After tricking the Super Friends into acquiring the Monolith for them, the Legion uses it to terrorize the world.

Moment of Shame: In the Super Friends episode “The Swamp of The Living Dead”, the Legion of Doom makes a pact with an evil mystic being to trade the Super Friends for a portion of the evil being’s power. The Legion lures the Super Friends in small groups to their secret swamp hide-away. In one of the attacks, Sinestro and Solomon Grundy are facing off against Green Lantern and Hawkman. During the attack, Grundy grabs both of the heroes and lifts them into the air. Hawkman quickly suggests to Green Lantern that they grab a tree-branch above them. The heroes grab onto the branch and swing themselves around kicking Grundy face-first into the swamp.
