Characters

Green Lantern

Real Name: Hal Jordan

Base of Operations:
Coast City, CA / Sector 2814

Group Affiliation: The Justice League of America, The Super Friends, & The Green Lantern Corps

Powers: Green Lantern possesses a power-ring, which is fueled by his will. With the ring, Green Lantern can fly, create objects of solid green energy, project force fields, give himself super-strength, and a variety of other functions. The only limit on what the ring can do is Green Lantern’s imagination.

Origin/History: Test pilot Hal Jordan was sought out by another dying Green Lantern Abin Sur to take Abin’s place as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Abin passed along his uniform and power-ring to Hal which Hal has used to fight evil and injustice ever since. Some of Green Lantern’s deadliest villains include Sinestro, Star Sapphire, Evil Star, and the Manhunters.

Moment of Glory: In the Super Friends episode “The World’s Deadliest Game”, Black Vulcan, Hawkman, and Wonder Woman get sucked into an artificial black-hole created by the Toyman and are trapped on his planet of giant toys. The three heroes are unable to penetrate the black-hole. After a while, Superman and Green Lantern arrive on Toyman’s planet. Neither of them is able to penetrate the black-hole either. Green Lantern then has an idea to combine he and Superman’s bodies into one. Once combined, the Green Lantern/Superman being is powerful enough to pierce the black-hole and free the trapped Super Friends

Moment of Shame: In the Super Friends episode “Invasion of the Fearians”, Green Lantern flies out into space to stop three comets from crashing into earth. Once out in space, Green Lantern realizes the comets were created by Sinestro’s power-ring. Being that Green Lantern’s power-ring won’t work on anything yellow, he decides the only way to protect the Earth is to move it out of the comet’s path (which causes the Earth to become several degrees warmer). This action is exactly what Sinestro and the rest of the Legion of Doom were counting on, as their plan was to use the Super Friends to make the Earth more like Venus so that the Legion’s new partners, the Fearianas, can invade the Earth.

Quote: “This has to be the work of my old adversary Sinestro!”
