Characters

Batman

Real Name: Bruce Wayne

Base of Operations: Gotham City

Group Affiliation: The Super Friends, The Justice League of America, The Outsiders

Powers: The Batman has built himself to the peak of human perfection. Over the years, he has trained in multiple different fighting arts including boxing, judo, karate, and various others. He has a keen mind and is a master detective. In fact, he has been referred to by many as “the world’s greatest detective”. He is a top strategist and is constantly thinking ahead of his opponents. Very few have been able to take him by surprise. Batman also carries a variety of gadgets and weapons with him (most being concealed in his utility belt). Among these items are Batarangs, lasers, grappling hooks, lock-picks, smoke bombs, hand-cuffs, and tear gas. His cape is also made of a unique substance that is hard to damage. It has been known to deflect lasers and bullets.

Origin/History: Young Bruce Wayne and his parents Thomas and Martha were coming out of a movie theatre one night and while walking to their car, they were approached by a mugger. The Wayne’s were not quick to give up their valuables so the mugger shot and killed them leaving Bruce as an orphan. Bruce was cared for by his parents’ butler Alfred Pennyworth. Shattered by the loss of his parents, Bruce devoted himself to perfecting his mind and body building himself to the peak of human perfection. Once he had attained the skills and training he needed, he adopted the guise of Batman to strike fear into the hearts of criminals.

Moment of Glory: In the Super Friends episode “The Fear”, the Scarecrow has been on a looting spree in Gotham City. When Batman tries to stop him, the Scarecrow ducks down Crime Alley(the place where Batman’s parents were killed). The Scarecrow is surprised to see that something in the alley terrifies Batman. He uses this to his advantage and creates a fear-transmitter device that when focused on Batman, makes him think he is in the alley and freezes him dead in his tracks. Eventually, the Scarecrow captures Robin and Wonder Woman and plans a final showdown in a cornfield. When Batman arrives to save his friends, the Scarecrow uses his fear-transmitter on Batman once again which causes him to collapse in fear. The Scarecrow then send a hay bailing machine towards the three heroes which could shred them all into pieces. Batman, realizing what is at stake, conquers his fear and saves his friends.

Moment of Shame: In the Super Friends’ episode “Swamp of the Living Dead”, the Legion of Doom makes a pact with a witch and her demonic ally to bring the duo a tremendous source of good(the Super Friends) in exchange for some all-conquering evil power. The Legion is told to lure the Super Friends to the swamp that the witch and the demon occupy and they will take care of the rest. The Cheetah and the Scarecrow lure Batman and Robin to the swamp by having the Scarecrow disguise himself as Hawkman and call the Super Friends for help insisting he is trapped in the swamp. When the dynamic dou arrives, Batman tries to pull the faux Hawkman out of the swamp by throwing him a Bat-rope and pulling him out. Instead of climbing out the swamp, “Hawkman”(aka Scarecrow) pulls Batman into the murky waters where soon he is pulled under water and imprisoned in the demon’s special holding cell.

Quote: “What’s the matter Bizarro? Can’t even punch your way out of a plastic bag?”
