Characters

Apache Chief

Real Name: Unrevealed

Base of Operations: Mobile

Group Affiliation: The Super Friends

Powers: By speaking the word “Inuk-chuk”, Apache Chief has the power to increase his size and strength. While usually, he only grows to 50 ft. tall, he has been seen on occasion to grow taller. Apache Chief also has keen Indian tracking abilities.

Origin/History: When Apache Chief was a teenager, he sprinkled with a magic-powder from a medicine man in his Indian tribe. The magic-powder not only gave him the power to increase his size and strength but it also increased his bravery fifty-fold.

Moment of Glory: In the Super Friends episode “Colossuss”, a space giant named Colossuss who is bigger than the earth threatens the planet. Superman flies out into space to confront the giant but quickly finds that even he is not match for the gargantuan villain. Apache Chief discovers that Superman was not able to stop Collossuss so he takes a chance on saying his magic word “Inuk-chuk” several times to increase his size to the same as Collossuss. The two giants clash in a vicious battle, which proves them both to be, near equals. Luckily for Apache Chief, he thought ahead and pulls out his trump card: a shrink-ray. Apache Chief quickly reduces the villain to the size of a normal human being. Shortly afterwards, Apache Chief and Superman make quick work of Collossus.

Moment of Shame: In the Super Friends’ episode “History of Doom”, we are treated to the origins of several origins of Super Friends and Legion of Doom members. In one segment, we learn that Apache Chief and a medicine man from his Indian tribe were out in the forest one day and came upon a large grizzly bear. The medicine man quickly told Apache Chief he was going to sprinkle him with a magic-powder that would enable him to take on the grizzly bear with ease. Upon being sprinkled with the magic-powder, Apache Chief found by speaking Indian word for “big man” known as “Inuk-chuk”, that he could increase his size and strength. He quickly carried the bear far away from the two of them so that the bear was no longer a threat. While this was quite the accomplishment, Apache Chief failed to notice that a young woman had come across the medicine man and stole the pouch containing the magic-powder and sprinkled some of the powder on herself giving Apache Chief’s 50 feet of heroism a match with 50 feet of villainy. The young woman soon came to be known as the feminine, yet ferocious Giganta.
